About the role

Interprets physician referrals and completes musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations using appropriate methods. Establishes a plan of care and implements individual treatment based on evaluation results and functional goals. Monitors and evaluates outcomes, adjusting the treatment plan as needed and providing status updates to physicians and other team members. Identifies and addresses factors affecting patient comfort and provides discharge planning, including written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, and transition planning.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets physician referrals and completes evaluations
  • Establishes and implements individual treatment plans
  • Maintains and adjusts treatment plans based on patient response
  • Provides discharge planning and patient/family teaching
  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to achieve optimal patient care
  • Completes required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards
  • Records patient care and progress
  • Completes daily statistics, billing, and scheduling
  • Adheres to insurance guidelines and billing policies
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • Performs various manual techniques, patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties
  • Utilizes modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices as directed
  • Participates in safety initiatives and follows safety and infection control measures
  • Engages in performance improvement activities
  • Manages assigned caseload and covers shifts as needed
  • Pursues professional growth through continuing education and participation in departmental in-services
  • Orients new staff to clinical and department policies
  • Provides feedback to colleagues as requested
  • Supervises physical therapy assistants and extendsers
  • Delegates tasks to assistive personnel and provides ongoing supervision

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school
  • Licensed Physical Therapist in the state where employed
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Qualifications

  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of age-specific patient needs and principles of growth and development
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., push/pull up to 75-100 lbs., and perform transfers with assistance
  • Functional use of senses to communicate effectively
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment safely

Skills

  • Knowledge of indications and contraindications of modalities and exercise
  • Effective communication and collaboration with healthcare professionals and patients
  • Ability to manage caseload and cover shifts as needed
  • Proficiency in computer systems and documentation processes
  • Understanding of insurance guidelines and billing policies
