The Physical Therapist (PT) role is not currently open. However, we accept resumes for our primary service provider positions on a continuous cycle. This role is posted to allow interested individuals to submit their contact information and resumes to be on file. This enables us to begin the hiring process more quickly if the role becomes available.

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist is an integral part of the Early Support Services team at Whatcom Center for Early Learning (WCEL). PTs are responsible for evaluating and assessing children enrolled in the Early Support (formerly Early Intervention) Services program, developing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), and providing specialized instruction and consultations in natural environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate present levels of development in appropriate skill areas for children referred to the program, using standardized evaluation tools, screenings, and informal observations.
  • Develop IFSPs in collaboration with parents and WCEL Family Resources Coordinators as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain an understanding of early childhood development and federal/state policies related to early intervention services.
  • Provide specialized instructor services and consultations to children and families in various community settings.
  • Incorporate parents in all aspects of program services and collaborate with outside service providers and community partners.
  • Attend team meetings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in community events and host intern/job shadowing opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate data and records in the ESIT system and hard copies of documentation in each child's file.
  • Document daily work hours and participate in mid-year and annual reviews with supervisor.

Education and Knowledge

  • Advanced degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited university.
  • State of Washington Physical Therapy license (issued by DOH).
  • State of Washington driver’s license and reliable, insured vehicle.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of Infant/Toddler CPR certification (can be obtained post-hire).
  • Experience with infants and toddlers with special health care needs and their families.
  • Special consideration for providers with knowledge and experience in pre-feeding activities, initiating and progressing bottle feeding, supporting oral feeding programs in tube-fed infants, transitioning from tube to oral feeding, and introducing solid foods.
