Job Responsibilities
- Evaluates and treats patients as prescribed by referring physician
- Records treatment, response, progress and discharge information in patient's chart or enters information into computer
- Educates patient, family and significant others regarding condition, treatment and home program
- Routinely confers with physician and other practitioners in person, by phone, or in writing, regarding progress, regression or change of plan
- Orients, instructs, and directs assistants, aides and students
- Maintains professional growth by attending department meetings, inservices and educational conferences
- Aids in the planning and implementation of new programs
Education and Experience Requirements
- BS, MS or DPT degree from an accredited program in Physical Therapy required
- Licensure by the state of Connecticut required
- Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire required
- Minimum of one-year clinical experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to review physicians' referral, patients' condition, and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required
- Demonstrate skills in order to perform tests and measure patients' strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, along with respiratory and circulatory efficiency
- Plan and prepare written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data with realistic, objective, long and short-term goals and time frames
- Records treatment, response, progress and discharge information in patients' chart or enters information into computer, in measurable and objective terms as dictated by department policy
- Knowledge to administer individualized programs of physical therapy as determined by the physicians' order and the initial evaluation
