Physical Therapist - Inpatient - PRN

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist is responsible for organizing and conducting physical therapy programs in the acute, subacute, and outpatient settings to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part. The role maintains standards of professional and ethical practice while providing the highest quality, patient‑oriented, technology‑advanced, cost‑effective healthcare with compassion.

Requirements

• Licensed by the State of Tennessee.
• Graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy.
• Standard patient‑care equipment for services provided.
• Ability to work well under pressure, function dependently and independently, and be flexible in applying basic Physical Therapy knowledge to a variety of settings.
• Equipment: Network Computer System, AT&T Language line.
• Physical environment may include exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, risk of blood‑borne diseases, and combative patients; expected to provide services in any hospital area where competency is demonstrated.
• Physical effort: communicate in English verbally and legibly; prolonged extensive walking; frequent lifting, positioning, transferring, and pushing of patients; frequent walking with patients; moving supplies and equipment requiring moderate effort (lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lb); manual dexterity and mobility; frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching; occasional handling of supplies or equipment up to 25 lb above shoulder level; ability to carry patients down three flights of stairs using stretchers or wheelchairs during evacuation; safe maneuvering of patient weight.

Performance Standards

• Performs initial and ongoing assessments related to patients' conditions and plans of care.
• Develops and establishes treatment plans based on standards of practice using an interdisciplinary approach with patients, families, and staff.
• Demonstrates knowledge and ability to apply therapeutic principles and practices consistent with standards established by the American Physical Therapy Association.
• Progresses patients through levels of treatment effectively and safely to maximize outcomes.
• Performs patient and family discharge planning, including education, home exercise programs, and appropriate discharge recommendations.
• Consults with other staff members to coordinate physical therapy services.
• Participates in orientation and skill development of new team members.
• Documents patients' care in a timely, thorough, and complete manner.
• Maintains work areas and personal appearance reflecting professionalism, cleanliness, orderliness, and safety.
• Provides direction and guidance to students and technicians.
• Participates in activities that improve department effectiveness, processes, communication, and/or image.
• Manages time and caseloads effectively.
