Provides direct services to an assigned caseload of students, consults with classroom staff to promote the generalization of skills across environments and conducts evaluations as assigned. Qualifications Required Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited Physical Therapy program Massachusetts License (current, in good standing) Qualifications Desired Experience working in a pediatric setting/school setting with children with special needs is preferred, though not required Excellent written and oral communication skills. Essential Functions And Responsibilities Adhere to established rules, regulations, laws and appropriate ethical standards when conducting Physical Therapy screenings, evaluations and direct services.. Administer formal and informal assessments including observing students in educational environments, selecting appropriate assessments based on individual student needs, and administering assessments according to acceptable procedures. Analyze and interpret information to make recommendations regarding the need for physical therapy services in the school based setting by integrating data from a variety of assessment techniques and sources including but not limited to skilled observation, checklists, parent interview, functional, and standardized assessments. Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report that reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment in language that is clear and easily understood, and that meet state requirements. Safeguard confidentiality of student records. Write IEP goals and objectives for assigned caseload, and complete progress reports each term. Take session notes and attendance to monitor progress. Present on current performance at IEP team meetings and propose new goal and objective areas for the student’s upcoming academic year. Provide direct services to identified students, as prescribed by the service delivery indicated on the IEP. Direct services can be provided in the context of either a push-in or pull-out model in accordance with the need of each student. Provide consultation to teachers and other school staff to promote the generalization of skills across settings. Consult regularly with families to provide updates on student progress and provide recommendations. Create and provide a standing schedule to the Assistant Director and Department Head for Related Services. Regular travel to all collaborative locations. Any related duties as outlined by the Deputy Director of Student Services, Assistant Director, and/or the Department Head for Related Services. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and perform physical restraint of a student at times of behavioral escalation. The employee is expected to lift at least 20 lbs (i.e. books, school supplies, etc.). The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally s/he operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly/run across even or uneven surfaces. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students. Work Environment: The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.
