About the role
Performs physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. Keeps treatment skills updated through continuing education, evidence based research and program development. Carries out job responsibilities in alignment with the program's strategic objectives.
Responsibilities
- Provides prescribed physical therapy treatment to patients under the supervision of the physical therapist.
- Educates patients and their families in the knowledge and skills promoting functional restoration of mobility.
- Documents all care given and patient responses in the patient's medical record.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, rehabilitation programs, and related activities.
- Maintains professional standards by participating in inservices and adhering to hospital and department requirements.
- Delegates, directs, and supervises care provided by PCTs and physical therapy assistant students.
- Assists the physical therapist in determining equipment and supply needs and may participate in their acquisition and inventory.
- Provides discipline-specific coverage within Sparrow Health System as requested.
- Serves as a clinical instructor for physical therapist assistant students, supervising, teaching, and evaluating their skills.
- Communicates with participating universities regarding student skill levels.
- Participates in program development as assigned.
- Assists in orientation and training of new staff.
- Ensures clean and orderly treatment areas.
- Demonstrates competence in relevant software and hardware.
Requirements
- Demonstrates knowledge and respects patient privacy by following HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures.
- Maintains and respects ICARE values and standards of behavior.
- Communicates with patients, families, and customers using AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank).
- Works in a safe manner and promptly reports any hazards.
- Promotes patient/family satisfaction where possible.
- Participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.
- Minimum of two years experience in inpatient rehabilitation preferred.
- Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
- State of Michigan PTA licensure.
- CPR certification to meet department/program protocol (within 6 months of hire).
