Job Summary
Under supervision, incumbents perform the duties of an operational level physical therapist. The Per Diem Physical Therapist reports to the Clinical Supervisor, Physical Therapy and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. The Per Diem P.T. works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The Per Diem P.T. with specific pediatric competencies may also work with infants, children and/or adolescents.
Responsibilities
Performs physical therapy evaluations on referral by a licensed physician and administers various muscle, neurological, gait, functional and developmental tests to determine a patient's physical limitations. Evaluates effectiveness of PT intervention in preparation for discharge
Administers direct patient care, utilizing the full range of physical therapy techniques as outlined in the Series Concept. Determines appropriate plan of care for patients based on medical necessity while taking into account insurance restrictions
Delegates and coordinates any part of a patient's therapeutic intervention which can be legally and appropriately done by support staff
Prepares, maintains and transmits accurate patient care records as required including services rendered, progress notes, discharge notes and third party payer reports (e.g., CCS, MediCare, Medi-Cal forms)
Communicates effectively and efficiently with patients, families, department staff, managers and other hospital personnel. Communicates with referring providers and other allied health professionals to provide optimal care
Participates in department quality assurance and performance improvement activities as needed and at the discretion of the assistant director or director
Assists with research projects as appropriate
Clinical teaching with students from DPT program
Qualifications
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills
Licensure as a Physical Therapist with the California State Board of Medical Quality Assurance, and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of one year outpatient patient care experience
Prior physical therapy experience in an academic medical center environment
Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary health provider team
Possession of a degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited professional educational program
Possession of a Board Certification from the APTA
Prior EMR documentation experience
