What You'll Do

As a System Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing customized technical solutions to meet client and project requirements. The role serves as an internal physical security technology subject matter expert supporting project managers and systems designers. The System Design Engineer contributes to the development of ZBeta engineering and technical consulting tools and processes. You are a resourceful, knowledgeable, and self-motivated security professional who thrives in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Position Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design: Create, edit, review, and proof ZBeta design and engineering drawings package components: plans, details, diagrams, schedules, estimates, and programming matrices. Participate in project technical architectural design and coordination efforts including those for door hardware, device mounting, mechanical and electrical infrastructure; and structured cabling and network/telecom infrastructure. Present calculations, make recommendations, review, and make comments on architectural specifications, and review and make comments on contractor submittals.
  • Technical Study: Conduct technical studies, such as cable distance and voltage drop calculations; cable fill and conduit sizing calculations; electrical power requirements and heat loading calculations; equipment test fits for wall and rack layouts; camera angle to target and pixels on target; network bandwidth and storage requirements; IDF loading, and systems cost estimation.
  • Product Research: Conduct product research and engage in continuing technical education in physical security systems software, equipment, and related infrastructure technologies (network, server, storage, etc.). Conduct technology assessment and comparison studies.
  • Troubleshoot: Research and resolve client and project issues related to codes, standards, and regulations applicable to physical security systems. Assist consulting and project management staff with technical troubleshooting and technical issues resolution.
  • Quality Assurance: Support system testing and commissioning activities. Confirm proper function, operation, performance, and compliance vs applicable standards, requirements, and design documentation.
  • Project Management: Work within the project budget and timeline to ensure a timely, cost-effective design delivery. Participate in project meetings to gain an understanding of the scope of work and project goals. Provide project leadership for the System Designers and work collaboratively with the Project Manager on projects from design to closeout.

Experience & Education

  • 5+ years of security system design and/or security technology experience is required
  • 2+ years Revit &/or AutoCAD experience is required
  • Associate degree, Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit for Electrical Design, or relevant work experience

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency in Lenel security system hardware and programming required
  • Genetec, C•CURE, and other security system hardware and programming are a plus
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam and Navisworks
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design software such as Revit & AutoCAD is required
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and work quality
  • Technical aptitude and a facility with software applications are required
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to organize and present design information to clients

Schedule & Work Requirements

  • The ability to work Monday - Friday, 7 am - 4 pm or 8 am - 5 pm in your local time zone is required
  • Must have a quiet, designated workspace and access to high-speed internet (minimum 200Mbps d/l, 10 Mbps u/l)
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
  • Candidates must be able to meet client and/or government security screening requirements for the role
  • This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship.
  • The successful completion of a background check is required upon hire and every two years thereafter
