Physical Security Solutions Architect
About the role
The Physical Security Solutions Architect is a critical hands-on technical leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's comprehensive physical security technology infrastructure. This position serves as the primary technical authority for all physical security systems, including video surveillance, access control, badging, critical communications, and visitor management platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive architecture for all physical security platforms such as Genetec, InformaCast, SailPoint identity management integration, Workday HRIS integration, Envoy visitor management, and consolidating multiple badging systems
- Develop and maintain detailed system architecture documentation, including network diagrams, integration flows, data models, and standard operating procedures
- Conduct comprehensive assessment of current state architecture identifying strengths, vulnerabilities, risks, standardization opportunities, and modernization requirements
- Design future-state architecture with emphasis on standardization, scalability, cloud-first approaches, and alignment with enterprise IT standards
- Perform hands-on administration of physical security platforms including configuration, updates, patches, and performance optimization
- Determine future system administration for daily ownership and operation, between IT services, security, HR and other business functions
- Design and support maintenance of standardized access control hardware configurations for readers, locks, and control panels
- Support incident investigations by providing video evidence and system expertise
- Manage relationships with security technology vendors, system integrators, and service providers
- Evaluate vendor roadmaps and emerging technologies to inform strategic planning
- Coordinate with vendors for support escalations, product enhancements, and system upgrades
- Establish and maintain service level agreements with technology partners
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation as escalation point for physical security systems incidents
- Lead incident response for physical security system failures, working with IT Services and Network teams for resolution
- Provide technical guidance to IT Services team members who handle hardware troubleshooting (readers, cameras, access control points) and Level 1/2 support
- Determine appropriate ownership and administration models for physical security applications across IT and business functions
- Maintain system health, performance metrics, and capacity planning for all physical security platforms
- Collaborate with Network Infrastructure and Cybersecurity teams to ensure a secure, high availability network architecture for physical security systems
- Work alongside physical security leaders and program managers to meet their requirements and timelines
- Partner with HRIS and Integrations teams for identity and access management workflows
- Engage with non-IT stakeholders including HR, Legal, Corporate Communications, Operations, Facilities Management, security contractors, and law enforcement as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Security Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in physical security systems architecture, design, and implementation
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with security center platforms such as Genetec and InformaCast
- Exceptional documentation skills with ability to create comprehensive technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and standard operating procedures
- Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
