Physical Security Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering
About the role
Physical Security Engineers at AWS work to design safe, secure, resilient, cost-effective Data Center (DC) facilities. You will lead security designs for DC projects, collaborate with other security organizations within AWS, and manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities
- Lead designs (construction drawings and specifications) for physical security elements (cameras, access control, intrusion detection, fences, gates, etc.) for DC projects.
- Collaborate with other security organizations within AWS to develop design standards, evaluate cost, risk and benefits of designs, and facilitate design discussions.
- Communicate conceptual designs to internal stakeholders and external consultants.
- Create security design scope of work for DC project RFPs.
- Review and direct the work of physical security engineering design consultants.
- Manage multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously.
- Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 20%.
Requirements

You should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related technical field, 7+ years of physical security engineering experience, and 2+ years of experience in mission critical facilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related technical field
- 7+ years of physical security engineering experience in industrial or commercial facilities
- 2+ years of physical security engineering experience in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, or oil and gas generation
- Experience carrying physical security design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
Skills
Preferred qualifications include ASIS Physical Security Professional Certification (PSP) certification, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification, experience in construction administration and commissioning, and knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
