FUNCTION & DUTIES
- E Lead warm-up exercises.
- E Perform clerical tasks such as taking attendance, recording performance scores or test grades.
- E Assist with supervision of physical education activities.
- E Confer with physical education teachers regarding students' progress and problems.
- E Utilize physical education equipment such as game balls, tape measure and stopwatch.
- E Operate a vehicle to travel to various school sites to conduct work.
- E Assist with physical performance testing as directed.
- E Demonstrate skills required for physical fitness testing or game participation as directed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Methods and techniques of communicating effectively with students.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Basic record keeping techniques.
- Ability to demonstrate skills required for physical fitness testing or game participation as directed.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Learn the basic methods, procedures and policies of assigned physical education activities.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Utilize physical education equipment such as game balls, tape measure and stopwatch.
- Operate a vehicle to travel to school sites to conduct work.
- Demonstrate attendance required to perform duties of the position.
Education & Experience
- Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and six months' experience working with children in a recreational or physical education environment.
Licenses & Other Requirements
- Valid California driver's license.
Environment
- Indoor and outdoor classroom/work environment.
- Physical Abilities: Standing for extended periods of time; walking or running over rough or uneven surfaces of an athletic field; bending at the waist and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to demonstrate skills and calisthenics; hearing and speaking to exchange information and explain game rules; seeing to monitor student activities and behavior; carrying, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 15 pounds.

- All plans are available to the employee and their dependents. This coverage is available to employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week.
- Retirement benefits include membership in CalPERS (California Public Employee's Retirement System) and Social Security (OASDI).
- This is a joint contribution plan. To qualify for CalPERS an employee must work a minimum of 20 hours per week or already be a member, if not the employee is eligible for an alternative retirement plan.
- The District encourages employees to pursue professional growth, and provides financial incentive for classified employees completing professional growth programs.
- Additional benefits available to employees to which the District does not contribute include life insurance, a Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan, an income protection plan, and a credit union.
- Substitute employees are not eligible for vacation or holiday pay but are eligible to earn sick leave at the rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, not to exceed 48 hours.
- Further, substitute employees are not automatically eligible for CalPERS or District health benefits.
