PHP THERAPIST (LCPC/LCSW) - Full time

About the role

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive five-day treatment program serving children and adolescents ages 5 through 17 who are experiencing emotional or behavioral problems. Patients follow a personalized treatment plan for therapy and medication management and are only required to be in the hospital during scheduled PHP hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and leadership to the department.
• Ensure a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, and activities of daily living.
• Conduct daily contraband searches.
• Conduct social history assessment interviews and produce a social work assessment or assessment update from the interview data.
• Document in the medical record: psychosocial histories, discharge planning, patient contacts, treatment updates, etc.
• Create and revise individual and master treatment plans.
• Implement programs, conduct individual and family counseling sessions, and run group sessions.
• Create and revise group topics and materials.
• Document tracking sheets, progress notes, and group session notes for each patient and file accordingly.
• Initiate and follow through on discharge/aftercare planning; provide support networks (DCFS, SASS, School Social Workers, teachers) with updates on patient progress.
• Identify appropriate referrals for post-discharge services and establish rapport with same.
• Consider basic growth and development milestones with interventions specific to the age and population served.
• Follow all policies/procedures related to release of information and confidentiality.
• Attend multi-disciplinary treatment staffing as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of experience working with a psychiatric patient population preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: LSW or LPC preferred.
• BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association and CPI certification required upon completion of orientation; both certifications must remain active throughout employment.

Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of psychiatric group processes and therapeutic relationship processes.
• Understanding of age-specific growth and development, limit setting, and behavior management.
• CPI leadership skills and diagnostic understanding of behaviors exhibited within the milieu.
• CPR training.
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, pre-adolescents, adolescents, and adult patients.
