About the role
We’re looking for an experienced studio photographer interested in e-commerce, fashion, and high-volume production. The On-Call Photographer is responsible for creating consistent, high-quality product imagery for Rue La La and Gilt across various categories.
Responsibilities
- Photograph a wide range of products and models for e-commerce production, including tabletops, on-model, and home imagery.
- Light and photograph each product in accordance with established lighting diagrams, styling guides, and product display standards.
- Capture the key features, functionality, fabrication, color, and unique details of each product accurately.
- Consistently produce technically sound, web-ready imagery that meets established quality, color, composition, and exposure standards.
- Maintain an efficient production pace while protecting image quality and meeting daily volume expectations.
- Partner closely with stylists to ensure products are presented accurately and efficiently on set.
- Collaborate with producers, art directors, set team members, and Imaging partners to execute the creative vision and resolve production issues.
- Review imagery throughout production and identify technical or product-related issues requiring correction or reshooting.
- Manage image exceptions and partner with the in-house Imaging team to support timely resolution.
- Follow established procedures for file naming, capture, saving, transferring, archiving, and image delivery.
- Manage image quality and adjust lighting or camera settings as needed to remain within established standards.
- Properly handle, maintain, and troubleshoot cameras, lighting equipment, grip equipment, and other studio tools.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free studio and shooting environment.
- Support location shoots, special projects, and evolving studio production needs as assigned.
- Perform other duties as identified and assigned.
Requirements
- Education: Degree in photography, digital photography, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional studio photography experience will also be considered.
- Portfolio: A strong portfolio of original work demonstrating strong lighting, composition, and technical execution is required.
- Experience: Two or more years of professional digital studio photography experience or equivalent relevant experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Capture One is required. Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, color management, and digital image-production workflows is essential. Experience with Canon camera systems and professional studio photography equipment is necessary. Strong knowledge of grip and electric equipment and safe studio practices is required. Experience with studio flash, continuous lighting, daylight control, location lighting, and remote lighting techniques is beneficial. Proven ability to recreate established lighting setups and maintain consistency across products, sets, and shoot days is important. Strong understanding of file naming, image capture, transfer, archiving, and delivery procedures is crucial. Ability to troubleshoot basic camera, lighting, and capture-workflow issues is expected.
