About The Job
Working hours for this role are 4am - 12:30pm every other Saturday and Sunday.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
- Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Collects blood from patients according to laboratory policies and procedures.
- Complies with MedStar Laboratory Compliance Plan by ensuring the following:
- Medically necessary diagnosis is submitted (ICD-10 Code/Descriptive Diagnosis).
- Physician signature is determined.
- Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) is obtained with patient signature if necessary prior to specimen collection.
- Greets patients in a courteous and professional manner.
- Verifies correct patient identification in accordance with hospital policy.
- Performs phlebotomy proficiently (skin and heel punctures when applicable) on all patient types.
- Places physician orders correctly into LIS.
- Accurately labels patient specimens immediately after procedure is completed according to laboratory policies and procedures.
- Maintains a good attendance record.
- Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and coworkers.
- Maintains working area in a sanitary condition.
- Assists with the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and requests supplies as necessary.
- Participates or assists in training new associates.
- Responds to telephone calls with courtesy and efficiency.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Minimal Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- Completion of Hospital approved phlebotomy course, required.
- Inpatient phlebotomy experience, preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification.
- Phlebotomy certification, preferred.
Knowledge Skills And Abilities
- Basic computer skills.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
Pay
This position has a hiring range of USD $19.55 - USD $34.25 /Hr.
