About The Job

Working hours for this role are 4am - 12:30pm every other Saturday and Sunday.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
  • Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Collects blood from patients according to laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Complies with MedStar Laboratory Compliance Plan by ensuring the following:
    • Medically necessary diagnosis is submitted (ICD-10 Code/Descriptive Diagnosis).
    • Physician signature is determined.
    • Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) is obtained with patient signature if necessary prior to specimen collection.
  • Greets patients in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Verifies correct patient identification in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Performs phlebotomy proficiently (skin and heel punctures when applicable) on all patient types.
  • Places physician orders correctly into LIS.
  • Accurately labels patient specimens immediately after procedure is completed according to laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a good attendance record.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and coworkers.
  • Maintains working area in a sanitary condition.
  • Assists with the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and requests supplies as necessary.
  • Participates or assists in training new associates.
  • Responds to telephone calls with courtesy and efficiency.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Minimal Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Completion of Hospital approved phlebotomy course, required.
  • Inpatient phlebotomy experience, preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification.
  • Phlebotomy certification, preferred.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

This position has a hiring range of USD $19.55 - USD $34.25 /Hr.
