About the role
The Facility at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina seeks a Phlebotomy Coordinator to oversee the daily operations of the phlebotomy service.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Phlebotomy Technical Specialist to set performance objectives and assess staff competence.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve ongoing issues affecting departmental and organizational goals and patient care.
- Incorporate quality improvement and patient satisfaction data into departmental goals.
- Demonstrate understanding of relevant regulations impacting patient care and departmental functions.
- Perform tasks comparable to those of a staff phlebotomist.
- Serve as a liaison between laboratory management and staff.
- Organize and prioritize workflow; post schedules two weeks in advance and assign daily tasks.
- Schedule work assignments and develop work schedules to ensure adequate staffing.
- Participate in evaluating methods and procedures needed for the phlebotomy section.
- Orient new employees and train staff on new procedures or methods.
- Maintain competency records for staff performing tests in the section.
- Investigate and review complaints, issues, incident reports, and concerns related to the shift and staff.
- Maintain and update technical knowledge, skills, safety training, and share this knowledge with the staff.
- Interact with Technical Specialists, Managers, Directors, and pathologists to implement new and existing laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Perform duties in place of the Phlebotomy Technical Specialist when requested.
- Monitor turnaround times by checking workstations and worklists for pending/incomplete procedures.
- Maintain statistical data for laboratory management reports, including TATs, productivity, and other assigned metrics.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Registered RPT, Certified PBT, or CPT certification required.
- At least 3 years of phlebotomy experience required.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Knowledge of appropriate blood collection/handling techniques.
- Physical abilities to walk, lift up to 25 pounds, perform light lifting, and engage in general motions such as bending, squatting, reaching, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Manual dexterity.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read documents and screens.
- Ability to discern colors.
- May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials.
