Phlebotomist Team Leader

About the role

Provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to the collection staff during blood drives or at branches. Ensures staff follow applicable policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy and collection procedures to collect blood or blood components.
• Completes beginning and end of shift responsibilities including review of all donor records and regulated documents for accuracy and completion.
• Aids in the recruitment of donors, including potential apheresis and platelet candidates, and supports collection goals.
• Maintains equipment and ensures necessary supplies are available for blood drives or branch operations.
• Maintains deferral and performance logs to identify training needs or equipment issues.
• Promotes excellent customer service and professionalism towards all customers, including communication to Donor Recruitment staff regarding issues and concerns.
• If assigned to mobiles, drives a blood mobile and other collection vehicles to and from collection sites.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent and six months of related experience. If assigned to work on mobiles, successful completion of CDL pre-qualifications, training, and obtaining a CDL is required. CPR certification is also required.

• Ability to read, understand, and follow safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to organize work for timely completion.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to commute with personal transportation.
• Ability to operate and drive a mobile, box truck or van to designated site locations, if assigned to mobiles.
• Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, as dictated by business needs, including weekends, holidays, and overtime when necessary.
