About the role
As a Laboratory Assistant at our facility, you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team. We are a highly functioning team that supports many different departments and has a passion for providing the best patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing.
- Collects blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
- Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering samples to Laboratory.
- Receives specimens into computer system and delivers them to the appropriate areas of the lab for testing.
- Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
- May perform special tests such as glucose tolerance tests.
- Streaking plates for microbiology set up, perform and report specific waived testing.
- Maintains records of tests performed and blood samples taken.
- Maintains needed equipment and supplies.
- Provides age and culturally appropriate care.
- Orients and mentors new staff members.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- Provides courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and their office staff.
- Orders Laboratory tests and, when necessary, sends specimens to a reference laboratory.
- Verifies documentation on incoming orders and maintains necessary logs.
- Sends test results of outpatients to the attending physician.
- Trains new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.
Requirements
- Good computer skills; filing/clerical skills.
- Prior specimen receiving experience preferred.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Course in medical terminology preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
