Phlebotomist -Part Time E/O Weekend

About the role

St. Mary Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our team. This position is responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients in a timely manner and delivery to the lab for testing. The role involves working with computers, centrifuges, and instrument lines for processing blood samples. We seek an experienced, highly-skilled technician who can work with a minimum of supervision, ensuring prompt and efficient patient care.

Responsibilities

• Properly identify outpatients by verbal confirmation and positive identification system.
• Correctly identify and label patient specimens for Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.
• Perform venipunctures and/or skin punctures using appropriate techniques.
• Use aseptic technique to draw blood cultures.
• Label all specimens immediately after venipuncture and complete necessary documentation.
• Evaluate specimen adequacy.
• Receive specimens in the computer and deliver them to the appropriate department.
• Monitor inventory levels and follow protocol for re-ordering supplies.
• Delete or cancel orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague spoken with.
• Collate requests, answer the telephone, deliver specimens to appropriate departments, and operate the pneumatic tube.
• Demonstrate proper telephone etiquette, answer questions, direct inquiries, and take messages.
• Adapt work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs.
• Collect TIMED and STAT tests within the designated time period.
• Maintain supplies, carts, and workstations in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy Certification or equivalent training.

Schedule

Part Time, every other weekend nights.
