Major Responsibilities
- Cordially greets and receives patients, ascertaining their needs and directing them appropriately.
- Collects blood samples using appropriate venipuncture techniques across all age groups, following departmental protocols.
- Communicates difficulties or complications to supervisors and maintains professional conduct.
- Receives specimens in the computer system, labels and prioritizes them accurately, and transports them promptly.
- Maintains a clean and organized drawing station or cart, restocking supplies at the end of each shift.
- Restocks supplies and reports low inventory.

- Registers all courier-delivered specimens accurately and efficiently, troubleshooting printer issues as needed.
- Demonstrates mastery of hospital information systems, ordering tests accurately using knowledge of test dictionaries and panels, and communicating with departments for clarification when needed.
- Answers and transfers calls courteously and efficiently, ensuring coverage for incoming calls at all times.
- Performs capillary collection proficiently, ensuring proper sample volume and quality.
- Adapts to workflow changes and staffing needs, providing coverage for home draws, secretarial duties, and drawing stations, and offering constructive feedback to supervisors.
- Maintains procedural proficiency through annual reviews.
- Supports emergency room operations by using Responder 5 efficiently and working independently, maintaining PPE compliance and pager readiness, and stocking supplies.
- Trains nursing staff and ensures timely patient draws.
- Applies knowledge of growth and development stages to patient care, demonstrating age-appropriate communication and support.
Position Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Preferred: Phlebotomy training, ASCP certification or eligibility, phlebotomy experience, computer and keyboard proficiency, fluent English communication skills.
