Responsibilities

  • Registers and orders specimens received from clients into LIS.
  • Verifies and enters patient, test, and information into LIS computer system according to policy.
  • Generates barcode labels, labels specimens, and prints outstanding specimen list.
  • Performs phlebotomy on inpatient and outpatient populations using the stated procedural policies.
  • Makes therapeutic phlebotomies.
  • Maintains workflow using the specimen tracker.
  • Processes specimens including centrifugation, aliquoting, and labeling.
  • Prepares specimens to be sent to referral laboratories; obtains necessary information about sample requirements.
  • This job may also include preparing plant specimens on correct media and incubating them properly.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies for assigned area.
  • Maintains accurate records of processes performed, using manual and computer-based systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of phlebotomy training program preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred, ASCP certification/eligible preferred.
  • Dexterity sufficient to manipulate instrumentation.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures.
  • Ability to communicate adequately with all laboratory clients.
  • Basic clerical/data entry skills preferred.
  • Excellent client relations skills required.

Pay

$19.29 - $28.67 per hour, commensurate with experience.
