Phlebotomist/Lab Technician, Barre Health Center, Per Diem
Job Description
Performs venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy procedures on all ages of patients using appropriate specimen collection equipment and techniques.
Reviews requisition and orders from physicians to ensure appropriate tests are drawn and tests meet guidelines for Medical Necessity.
Prepares Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) for tests that do not meet Medical Necessity guidelines and obtains appropriate signatures from patient and self.
Prepares specimens for routine tests. Prioritizes requisitions. Ensures proper labeling of specimens and records in log.
Performs routine tests. Sets up test instruments and operates according to standard procedure.
Performs routine blood and coagulation tests. Records results.
Informs Manager or others of unusual problems as required or directed.
Processes specimens including centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, labeling, and packaging.
Searches Patient Station in EPIC for appropriate patient demographic information.
Position Qualifications
- Required: High School graduate with successful completion from a recognized program for training in phlebotomy or prior documented experience performing phlebotomies.
- Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment and maintenance of annual competencies in BLS.
Experience/Skills
- Familiarity with data entry and/or word processor and medical terminology.
- Prior experience performing EKGs preferred.
License/Certification/Education
- Required: High School graduate with successful completion from a recognized program for training in phlebotomy or prior documented experience performing phlebotomies.
- Basic life support certification required within 3 months of employment and maintenance of annual competencies in BLS.
