Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist (Per Diem)

About the role

Under general guidance of the Laboratory Medical Director and/or the Laboratory Manager, this position supports the clinical laboratory by performing venipuncture and skin puncture on neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, withdrawing blood for various test procedures, and labeling specimens accurately in the presence of the patient.

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen processing, centrifuge samples, distribute specimens to the appropriate testing area in the laboratory, and prepare patient samples for reference laboratory shipment while ensuring accurate specimen collection, handling, and shipping requirements are met.
• Assist with monitoring laboratory turnaround times using hospital and reference laboratory computer systems to ensure timely completion of all tests.
• Perform CLIA waived testing in the laboratory.
• Assist laboratory scientists with loading automated analyzers, specimen management, and monitoring result completion.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and maintain confidentiality.
• Exhibit strong organization skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
• Use computer literacy in Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office, with intermediate abilities in Word and Excel.
• Ensure accountability for compliance with laws, regulations, and policies to demonstrate ethical behavior.
• Perform all other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Active California Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) 1 or 2 Certification.
• BLS Certification within 3 months of hire.
• General computer and data entry experience.

Qualifications

• Preferred Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program.
• Preferred Experience: 6 months phlebotomy experience with all age groups; previous hospital laboratory experience.

Schedule

12 Hour Shifts (or as needed).
