Phlebotomist Floater

About the Role

The Phlebotomist serves patients by preparing specimens for laboratory testing and performing screening standards. The role involves drawing quality blood samples while creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination.
• Update patient information and ensure accurate documentation.
• Greet customers courteously and collect specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture or specimen collection process clearly and calmly to reduce patient anxiety.
• Demonstrate proficiency with straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Ensure 100% accuracy by cross-checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
• Package specimens for transport, store samples at required temperatures, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
• Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in CA, LA, NV, and WA).
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and a valid driver's license.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Willingness to travel 100% of the time throughout the assigned geography.

• Excellent patient interaction skills, both in person and by phone.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
