About the role
The Phlebotomist prepares specimens for laboratory testing and performs screening standards, drawing quality blood samples while creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination.
- Update patient information and ensure accurate documentation.
- Greet and treat customers courteously, explaining venipuncture or specimen collection processes clearly.
- Collect specimens according to established procedures, reducing patient anxiety by maintaining a calm environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency with straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature and labeling to maintain specimen integrity.
- Demonstrate proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment (required in CA, LA, NV, and WA).
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and a valid driver's license.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel throughout assigned geography 100% of the time.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
