Responsibilities
- Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently.
- Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing required training for proper handling and transport.
- Demonstrates understanding and adherence to the Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies.
- Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a “first in – first out” basis, with stat and alert specimens prioritized before routine orders.
- Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received properly.
- Follows appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
- Assists with department orientation and trains laboratory staff and students.
- Mentors new employees and ensures competency documentation is completed.
- Troubleshoots phlebotomy service concerns and coordinates daily workload assignments.
- Supports leadership with daily workflow and problem resolution.
- Serves as an example of professional phlebotomy performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Ability and willingness to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary) skills.
- Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- High School Grad or Equivalent.
- 1+ year of phlebotomy experience.
Qualifications
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program (preferred).
- Technical/Vocational School (preferred).
- 1+ year at AdventHealth lab (preferred).
Skills
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) (preferred).
- Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) (preferred).
