Job Description
The Phlebotomist ensures appropriate specimens are collected from patients in various settings, communicates effectively with patients, and performs clerical duties. Duties include accurate patient identification, specimen labeling, preservation, transportation, and pre-test processing. The position requires adherence to Singing River Health System procedures and policies.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Some college with courses in a health or science-related field preferred
- Training in computer, basic office equipment, and medical terminology preferred
- A current Phlebotomy certification from an approved agency preferred
- De-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days)
- One (1) year Phlebotomy experience preferred
Education & Training

Physical Demands
- Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and walk without experiencing undue fatigue
- Potential exposure to communicable disease or radiation

- Superior communication and speaking/enunciation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Special Demands
- Superior customer service skills
- Keyboard proficiency with MS Outlook and Word
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook and Word
- Ability to function independently and as a team
- Realization that an error may have serious consequences for patients
