Phlebotomist

Job Summary

As a Phlebotomist, you will competently collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort and safety. Every day you will identify patients, explain procedures, proficiently perform venipunctures, and accurately label/prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, adhering to safety protocols.

• Patient identification at all times, in all job functions
• Positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions
• Establishes and maintains good communication within the department and with other hospital departments
• Compliance with isolation and hand sanitization procedures
• Follows blood collection procedures, performs venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations
• Utilizes appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adheres to appropriate volume requirements
• Performs Blood Bank collections
• Follows written collection and Blood Bank banding procedures
• Demonstrates accuracy and good penmanship
• Maintains order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations and storage rooms

Requirements

• Required: High School Graduate General Studies, upon hire or High School GED General Studies, upon hire
• Basic Life Support - CPR, within 90 Days
• Preferred: 3 months phlebotomy in an acute care facility
• Phlebotomy Technician AMT, upon hire or
• Phlebotomy Technician ASCP, upon hire or
• Phlebotomy Technician IAPS, upon hire or
• Phlebotomy Technician NHCA, upon hire
