Phlebotomist

Primary Responsibilities

• Performs therapeutic phlebotomies and complex research study protocols.
• Participates in local inspections.
• Collects blood samples using various techniques.
• Enters data and maintains inventory of phlebotomy supplies and equipment.
• Prepares, processes, labels, and stores specimens according to integrity protocols.
• Provides technical guidance to interns.
• Opens and closes assigned sites.
• Performs required protocols including start-up, quality control, shut-down, etc.
• Instructs patients in specimen collection procedures.
• Verifies patient identification and collects specimens for diagnostic testing.
• Maintains proper sterile and aseptic techniques.
• Performs waived and moderate testing procedures and associated quality control.
• Reports results to providers, follows repeat/verification and validation procedures as applicable.
• Performs EKGs and transmits tracings to the computer-based system.
• Identifies potential abnormal tracing findings and reports to providers.
• Performs Holter Monitor testing.
• Stocks and rotates supplies following standard procedures.
• Maintains draw stations at established par levels.
• Monitors and adheres to expiration dates on tubes and reagents.
• Communicates low stock levels to designated staff.
• Responds to Code Blue incidents with EKG cart and performs tracing as needed.
• Applies knowledge of Code Blue, Nurse Call, and other emergency procedures and protocols.
• Performs front desk duties and general clerical tasks.
• Utilizes fax machines, copy machines, answers phone calls, and directs messages.
• Verifies demographic and insurance information.
• Maintains biohazardous waste disposal manifest for all departments.
• Serves as a mentor to students as designated by lead staff.
• Enters laboratory results into electronic medical record system.
• Completes annual proficiency and competency testing programs.
• Complies with health and safety requirements and regulatory agencies.
• Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
• Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, etc.
• Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.
• Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed, including accepting assignments at alternate sites and shifts.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 1+ years of phlebotomy, POCT, therapeutic phlebotomy, moderate complex testing, and EKG experience.
• Basic proficiency with software products such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
• Access to reliable transportation and valid US driver's license.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy certification preferred.
• CPR certification preferred.

Pay

The hourly pay for this role will range from $16 - $29 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
