Job Summary
This role is responsible for performing high-quality blood draws/specimen collection in alignment with Ascend Clinical procedures and standards. Key responsibilities include preparing and processing specimens, inclusive of centrifuging, labeling, and maintaining organized phlebotomy works areas while ensuring accurate patient identification at all times. The position also supports the shipment and return of specimens to Ascend Clinical for testing, maintenance of laboratory supplies and equipment designated for Ascend Clinical services. Additional duties may be assigned to support overall and operational needs. The schedule for this role will be Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM-4:00 PM in Athens, TN and Friday from 8:30 AM-4:00 PM in Chattanooga, TN.Responsibilities
Phlebotomists perform only blood draws and collection services at practice offices in compliance with all applicable Ascend Clinical policies and procedures. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Perform only blood draws and collection services in accordance with Ascend Clinical's policies and procedures
- Perform specimen processing and/or preparation activities (centrifuging, specimen splitting, labeling, requisitioning, stocking, and organizing phlebotomy area)
- Arrange for and assist with shipment, delivery, or return of specimens to Ascend Clinical for testing
- Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment provided by Ascend Clinical for Ascend Clinical testing only
- Ensuring that patient identification and accurate specimen labeling occurs at all times
- Adhering to all HIPAA confidentiality and privacy requirements
- Following all safety, infection control, and quality assurance policies
- Perform additional duties as required by Ascend Clinical
Qualifications
- Proficiency with keyboard use and data entry in clinical or administrative systems
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs, which may include weekends, holidays, on-call coverage, or overtime
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one (1) year of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, venipuncture, and capillary blood collection
- Completion of medical training, such as a medical assistant or paramedic program
- Current CPR/BLS certification (American Heart Association or equivalent)
- National phlebotomy certification (ex: ASCP, AMT, NGA NCCT)- Note: Certification is required in certain states such as California, Nevada, and Washington
