Phlebotomist / Administrative Assistant (Float)

About the role
As a One Medical Float Phlebotomist/Administrative Assistant (internally known as Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist), you’ll provide an exceptional experience for patients and help them accomplish an important part of their care journey through venipuncture and other clinical support services. You will be an ambassador for patients, removing barriers to care and ensuring a truly exceptional in-office experience. You will steward the office space to align with the One Medical brand and serve as the first point of contact for patients. You’ll support the Practice Coordinator, Operations Manager, or providers as needed, combining excellent specimen collection technique with strong interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Use impeccable C-I-CARE (a communication framework) in all patient interactions, ensuring a fluid and positive in-office experience through patient intake, same-day schedule management, follow-up scheduling, billing and insurance knowledge, and patient feedback monitoring.
- Provide best-in-class venipuncture services for patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, depending on the office location.
- Perform and assist with extended scope duties such as non-blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs.
- Maintain high standards of in-office care through proper specimen labeling, handling, processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization.
- Support members beyond the lab by answering patient messages, following up on lab cases, and assisting providers with clerical duties such as biometric screening forms, medical record reviews, billing inquiries, and DOH reporting.
- Handle front-of-house duties including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, paperwork tasks, prepping tests, and task management to meet service-level expectations.
- Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in problem-solving, and supporting providers with ad-hoc tasks.
- Perform opening and closing duties, daily office upkeep, restocking supplies, and maintaining the look and feel of patient and employee spaces.
- Master technology tools including Slack, G-suite, Zoom, Circulation, RingCentral, and the Electronic Medical Record System to interact with team members and complete daily work.
Requirements
- Active Medical Assistant certification from NHA, AAMA, NCCT, or AMT.
- Graduation from a postsecondary Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP, ABHES, or another recognized accrediting organization, or completion of relevant Medical Assistant training through any branch of the armed forces.
- At least 6 months of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist outside of a training/externship environment.
- Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in computer technology, including typing, navigating the internet, and using multiple software systems simultaneously.
- Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams (remote team experience a plus).
- Ability to display confidence and instill trust during specimen collection while delivering individualized, human-centered care.
- Proven track record of persisting through change, stepping up to tackle challenges, and learning quickly in new situations.
Pay
The range for this role is $25.75 - $27.75 per hour based on a standard full-time schedule.
Schedule
This is a full-time role (40 hours/week) with 8-hour shifts generally taking place between 7:30 AM - 7:00 PM, based in Westport, CT, with coverage at New Canaan and Darien Commons locations as needed.
