Job Summary

This role is responsible for executing the plasmapheresis process by performing venipunctures. This includes ensuring operations comply with state and federal regulations, delivering high-quality customer service, maintaining donor confidentiality, setting up and preparing equipment, operating automated machines, documenting procedures, and managing donor flow.

About the Role

Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, stock supplies, and perform inventory tasks. Report unsafe situations and conditions to management. Mentor and train team members as a Designated Trainer, and support QA-Backup or NexSys Technician duties as required. Collaborate with Quality Assurance on donor floor performance, including implementing CAPA initiatives and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure total operation complies with state and federal regulations (e.g. FDA approved SOPs, OSHA, CLIA, and GMP)
  • Deliver high-quality customer service, maintain a positive donor experience, and uphold donor confidentiality
  • Review and confirm donor identification, monitor donor conditions, and employ techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and product quality
  • Set up and prepare equipment and supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis; execute procedures and collect samples
  • Operate automated plasmapheresis machines, troubleshoot alarms/alerts, manage adverse donor events, perform QCs, and document exceptions
  • Disconnect donors and handle biohazardous waste and contaminated equipment, including cleaning spills and following safety protocols
  • Maintain accuracy and thoroughness of documentation, including Plasmapheresis Machine Logs
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, stock adequate supplies, and perform inventory tasks
  • Report all unsafe situations and conditions to management
  • Mentor and train team members as a Designated Trainer
  • Partners with Quality Assurance on overall donor floor performance, including favorable performance observations, CAPA implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Oversee the flow of donors, organize lunch schedules, breaks, and adhere to the schedule

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Three (3) months’ experience in a medical or health care environment or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Completed documentation of training appropriate for duties, prior to performing duties independently

Qualifications

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Able to speak, read, write (legibly and accurately), and understand English
  • Able to understand and follow written and verbal protocol
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills
  • Able to make accurate and complete documentation
  • Able to read and interpret documents, such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Able to perform venipunctures
  • Able to collaborate and adapt
  • Able to demonstrate reliability through attendance, punctuality, strong work effort, and schedule flexibility

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty-five (35) pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel
  • Ability to use all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens
  • Ability to view video display terminal less than 18” away from face for extended periods
  • Ability to work in an environment with a temperature of -40°C or colder for extended periods
  • Occasional exposure to and handling of dry ice
  • Ability to perform precise tasks that require repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for diagnostic tests
  • Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication
  • Ability to work daytime and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts on a frequent basis
  • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to focus and concentrate on tasks for extended periods
  • Ability to navigate the office environment safely, including stairs and elevators (if applicable)
  • Ability to travel up to 20% via airplane and vehicle (if applicable)
