About the role

The Environmentalist contributes to the discipleship team's efforts to transform communities of unreached people groups in the Philippines, impacting them both physically and spiritually, so their lives reflect the Glory of God and they better understand environmental preservation.

Responsibilities

  • Educate remote coastal communities about environmental issues and provide assistance and solutions to address problems contributing to environmental collapse.
  • Maintain and repair scuba gear, file scuba tanks, and assist with diving activities.
  • Collaborate with local governments to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  • Organize and write curriculum for various programs, including developing and participating in icebreakers and games.
  • Attend and participate in volunteer events such as trash clean-ups, tree plantings, and educational events in local schools.
  • Develop friendships with participants and encourage them to attend Bible studies or seek mentoring.
  • Work with the Dive Team to develop research protocols, conduct data analysis, and write research papers for publication.
  • Help maintain the website and social media accounts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental policy, or a related field.
  • Certification for Scuba Diving.
  • Ability to live in a remote location and work with scuba gear.
  • Experience working on a multicultural team.
  • Capacity to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Some experience with electronic, construction, and welding.
  • Experience coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders, especially those involving coastal communities and government agencies.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including written and verbal communication, time management, and task prioritization.
  • Enjoy working on boats in various weather conditions.
  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Experience with research teams.

Qualifications

  • Help maintain nine coral restoration sites and three coral nurseries, requiring at least two days a week and multiple dives per day.
  • Assist with dive preparation, including refilling scuba tanks and loading/unloading scuba gear.
  • May assist with construction, cleaning pontoon boats, painting, and electronics.

  • Experience with scuba diving and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of environmental science and policy.
  • Experience with grant writing and research coordination.
