About the role

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Retrives and delivers medication orders and supplies.
  • Prepares sterile products utilizing aseptic technique and USP 797 standards.
  • Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) utilizing USP 795 standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cartfill and Automated Drug Systems.
  • Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas and notifies the appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages are noted.
  • Performs quality assurance/improvement audits.
  • Maintains a neat clean and organized work area.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments.
  • Aids pharmacists in filling ambulatory prescriptions specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (e.g., pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
  • Aids in record keeping activities in any assigned area.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
  • OR Registered as a Pharmacist Intern with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
  • Two (2) years pharmacy technician experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize and solve problems.
  • Able to spend most of the day standing, walking, or bending.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull, reach, push up to 50 lbs, and regularly and occasionally lift 0-30 lbs.
