Pharmacy Technician Specialist - Afternoon Shift

About the role

The inpatient pharmacy at Trinity Health Ann Arbor is open 24/7, serving inpatients, the emergency department, operating rooms, and multiple procedural areas. The department is accredited by Joint Commission for adhering to USP 797 and 800 standards. As the lead location for the national Trinity Health Pharmacy Education and Advancement of Technicians (THE-PEAT) program, it educates pharmacy students to become licensed Pharmacy Technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all job functions of a Pharmacy Technician II on an as needed basis.
  • Functionally supervises the daily activities of approximately 30 technicians on an as needed basis.
  • Maintains an ongoing testing protocol for intravenous technique by documenting the successful completion of IV testing kits by all technicians.
  • Prepares cytotoxic agents and NICU pharmaceutical products following established departmental, licensing, and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Determines, assesses, and adjusts technician procedures for efficiently and accurately stocking automated medstations.
  • Communicates with nursing management to initiate and implement changes in the medication distribution system to provide continuous improvement.
  • Repackages controlled substance bulk items and miscellaneous pharmaceuticals not commercially available following established departmental policy and procedure.
  • Selects controlled substance orders for delivery to nursing units, records and verifies inventory adjustments and reconciles all internal discrepancies on a daily basis.
  • Collects, compiles, and documents quality assurance data/measures and prepares reports for Pharmacy management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six months specialized training beyond high school.
  • One-year Experience At The Pharmacy Technician Level.
  • Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan is required.

Qualifications

  • Competency in compounding and drug selection.
  • Proven competency in initial aseptic technique intravenous teaching.
  • Ability to maintain documentation of controlled substances and dispose of waste for all controlled substances as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of automated medstation logistics and inventory management.

Skills
