Night shift: 7:30 PM – 6:00 AM, 10-hour shifts on a 10/40 schedule. Every-other-weekend requirement.
Pay
Hourly pay range: $25.00 – $35.25. The stated scale reflects the range Sharp reasonably expects to pay; actual rate and pay grade depend on experience, skills, education, alignment with internal candidates, marketplace factors, and employer business practices.
Responsibilities
- Assists Pharmacists and the Department of Pharmacy in ordering, preparing, and distributing medications.
- Prepares IV additives and solutions using aseptic technique.
- Orders and restocks supplies; maintains the IV room in a neat and orderly manner.
- Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit-based safety and infection control requirements.
- Scans medications into and out of carousel and C2 safe at all times.
- Scans medications being refilled into automated dispensing machines (ADM), ensuring correct medication is restocked.
- Delivers patient medications to individual nursing stations, including STAT bags, ADM loads, ADM refills, and IV medications.
- Checks nursing floors for unused items to be returned to the pharmacy for reuse or destruction.
- Ensures STAT medications are filled and delivered timely.
- Utilizes scanning device to confirm medications are delivered to the correct location.
- Prepares bulk medications using the unit dose system.
- Prepares non-sterile special items that need compounding.
- Restocks crash carts, miscellaneous kits, and floor stock requisitions as needed.
- Assists with putting away wholesale or other direct orders.
- Maintains appropriate garbing, cleaning, and maintenance of the Clean Room Suite and all equipment, including Laminar Airflow Hood and BSC hood, per USP797 and CA State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Monitors refrigerator temperatures, room temperatures, and differential pressures in the HD, Ante, and Clean Room; documents all activities online daily.
- Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and orderly manner.
- Properly stores, handles, and disposes of IV medications and supplies, including hazardous medications.
- Uses the C2 safe appropriately; runs compare report daily to catch discrepancies and notifies Controlled Substance Technician or manager.
- Prepares all admixtures utilizing aseptic technique and prioritizes preparation for multiple patients.
- Routinely checks expiration dates in ADM and in the pharmacy; removes outdated medications and places them in the appropriate area.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) – CA State Board of Pharmacy (REQUIRED).
- Must be registered with the California State Board of Pharmacy Technicians (REQUIRED).
Qualifications
- Six (6) months hospital pharmacy experience (preferred).
- Pyxis med station experience (preferred).
- Two (2) years of college or equivalent training in a health-related field (preferred).
- IV sterile technique competency (preferred).
- Computer skills.
- Brand/generic name knowledge.
