Responsibilities
- Prepares medications in accordance with departmental policy.
- Prepares and labels interim doses of medications in accordance with departmental procedures and ensures pharmacist review and initials before dispensing medications.
- Reconstitutes IV admixtures and prepares required batches of parenteral products by performing necessary calculations and labeling.
- Calculates, prepares for distribution, and labels patient specific IV admixtures, utilizes proper aseptic technique and documentation procedures.
- Delivers and dispenses medications in accordance with departmental policies.
- Delivers medications to nursing units and brings back medications to be returned to the department.
- Operates automated dispensing machines, including but not limited to restocking, loading, unloading, and outdating of medications.
- Maintains inventory and restocks drug storage areas outside of the pharmacy including OR, ER, outpatient clinics, nursing units, etc.; completes inventory and records as assigned.
- Prepare, delivers stock according to departmental procedures.
- Handles controlled medications (CII-CV) in accordance with federal regulations and departmental policies.
- Performs clerical duties as assigned.
- Inspects medications in assigned area of pharmacy including carousel, refrigerator, shelves to ensure current dating; removes expired drugs as necessary.
- Organizes and maintains pharmacy in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.
- Maintains pharmacy in a clean, orderly and safe manner by restocking shelves, cleaning area, etc.
- Trains new employees.
- Comply with training schedule and LBH policies.
- Assists in training new employees and pharmacy students with regard to work procedures.
Qualifications
- National certification (PTCB Certificate or NHA's ExCPT Certificate) must be taken within 1 year of hire and obtained within 18 months of hire.
- Experience required: Less than one year
- Education preferred: High School / GED
- Licenses And Certification: Pharmacy Technician License - Current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain Maryland license
- Preferred: Pharm Tech Certification Credential Required: Pharmacy Technician License - Current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain Maryland license
- Pharm Tech Certification and obtain PTCB certification within 18 months of employment OR MD Pharmacy Intern License (if not registered)
