Description

The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can only legally be performed by a registered pharmacist.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy of Hillsboro Health to continually improve our performance to those we serve.
  • Procures and distributes drug orders by provider request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified timeframe.
  • Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures and protocols and within specific timeframe.
  • Maintain patient profiles accurately by promptly entering new orders and changes from providers.
  • Contributes to the effective operation of the department.
  • Manages Pyxis MedStation.
  • Participates in the quality improvement activities of the department.
  • Participates in improvement activities that affect the pharmacy inventory and cost.
  • Maintains competency required for current job title/position.
  • Prepares intravenous sterile preparations and chemotherapy once appropriately trained.
  • Participate in patient interviews face-to-face or by phone, as needed, to obtain an accurate medication history to aid in the Admission Medication Reconciliation Process.
  • Absorb and apply work accurately with attention to detail within specified times.
  • Work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff.
  • Communicate effectively with providers, nurses, pharmacists, hospital personnel, and patients.
  • Handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Solve problems and foster a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members.
  • Meet the pharmaceutical care needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, rehabilitation and skilled-nursing patients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Educational Requirement: High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience: Hospital and IV compounding experience preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid technician licensure through the State of Illinois. Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Board.

Physical Demands

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, use of a computer keyboard).
  • May require medium lifting and carrying light loads (not more than 25 lbs.) and stooping or kneeling.
  • Walking or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is sometimes necessary.
  • Must be able to physically operate the equipment used in the job.

Salary Description

$22.00 - $27.00 per hour.
