About the role
Riedman Pharmacy at 1455 E. Ridge Rd., Rochester, NY 14621 is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to work per diem shifts.
Responsibilities
- Operate EMR System
- Rounds to the floors accurately and in a timely manner to deliver medications.
- Recognizes medication names and medical abbreviations.
- Uses the pharmacy information system to run reports and access basic knowledge of medication data.
- Prepack bulk medicines by taking bulk medication and repackaging into individual, unit dose, size packaging.
- Properly cleans, maintains, and uses the repackaging machine.
- Non-sterile compounding and preparations of oral liquids, creams, and ointments in a clean environment.
- Measures and combines medication and documents accordingly.
- Fills patient orders with prescribed medications, completes documentation, and affixes patient information labels.
- Fills various emergency boxes and documents the process.
- Identifies the emergency box to be filled, obtains proper meds, scans for expiration dating and strength, and obtains pharmacist sign-off.
- Delivers medications or pharmaceutical supplies to patients, nursing stations, or surgery.
- Handles narcotics properly and disposes of medication according to hospital guidelines.
- IV Room – Knowledge of and proper practice of “A septic” technique.
- Transfers medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile, disposable syringes, using aseptic techniques.
- Receives and stores incoming supplies, verifies quantities against invoices, checks for outdated medications, and informs supervisors of stock needs and shortages.
- Answers telephones, responding to questions or requests.
- Performs clerical work in medical settings.
- Recognizes errors, misprints, or medications that may contraindicated with each other.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of the ADM (Automatic Dispensing Machine) and has the ability to troubleshoot and repair when necessary.
- Participates in process improvement initiatives such as safety and helps identify methods or ideas to improve current practices.
- Assists in training new hires.
- Advanced knowledge of IV procedures.
- Batch medication/narcotic drip ordering.
- Order supplies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Ambulatory Pharmacy Responsibilities
- Consistently, promptly, and courteously assist/wait on customers, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Obtain all necessary personal, medical (allergies/conditions) and insurance information from patient.
- Record information on the prescription and enter appropriate information into the pharmacy computer.
- Pull or procure drug product and original prescription, count and assess reorder status.
- Receive requests for refills through automated process and otherwise (phone), and ensure proper requested information is processed and communicated to pharmacists in a courteous manner.
- Compile prescription hard copies in numerical order and file on a daily basis.
- Keep a clean, uncluttered work environment.
- Clean shelves and storage areas routinely.
- Has thorough knowledge of “wholesaler” computer system.
- Absorb and compile order, receive confirmation, assess availability of product (backorders etc.), and follow through with communication to staff members for problems.
- Assists in checking in the pharmaceutical orders, verifying invoices/packing slips with pharmacy order, stickers drug products/supplies and places them into stock.
- Maintains adequate supplies (dispensing bottles, computer labels, bags, Medela products, necessary pharmacy billing and signature logs, etc.).
- Completes “Return to stock” task, based on current schedule in pharmacy, and reports information to accounts manager.
- Periodically throughout the day assesses cash register for appropriate change and retrieves as needed from cashier’s office.
- Balances the cash register at the end of the day, count back down to $50, and make a daily deposit. All money is placed in a safe and locked at the end of the day.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- None - willing to train.
- National Pharmacy Certification required within 18 months of hire.
- If hired before November 1, 2020, National Pharmacy Certification is required by February 28, 2022.
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for routine interaction with hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
- 1 year of work experience in a clinical, retail, or healthcare setting.
- If hired before November 1, 2020, the initial National Pharmacy Certification exam must be taken by November 1, 2021.
