Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient, PRN
About the role
Join Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital and support inpatient pharmacy operations at a growing 126-bed community hospital. This PRN role assists in ensuring medications are prepared, distributed, and delivered safely and efficiently across multiple patient care areas. Responsibilities include operating pharmacy automation systems, performing sterile compounding, triaging medication requests, delivering medications, and managing inventory.

Schedule
This is a PRN role with flexible shifts based on departmental needs, including:
- 7:00am to 3:30pm
- 7:30am to 4:00pm
- 11:30am to 8:00pm
- 1:30pm to 10:00pm
There are no minimum weekend or holiday requirements, though availability for at least one weekday shift and one weekend shift per month is preferred. Caregivers can expect to work approximately 1–2 shifts per month, depending on department needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance, and support for the Registered Pharmacist.
- Refill and maintain automated dispensing systems.
- Fill medication carts daily.
- Prepare orders and maintain inventory for the pharmacy department.
- Repackage bulk medications.
- Operate pharmacy automation systems, including the medication carousel and Pyxis automated dispensing cabinets.
- Perform sterile compounding.
- Triage medication requests and pharmacy phone calls.
- Deliver medications throughout the hospital.
- Assist with inventory control and medication replenishment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Upon hire, must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National HealthCareer Association (NHA).
- Upon hire, must hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
- Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations must update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program.
- Six months of hospital experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform functions of the job while reaching and stretching.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of the job.
Personal Protective Equipment
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay
The pay range for new hires in this role is $23.00 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices such as shift differentials or overtime, nor does it reflect the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package.
