About the role

The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient supports pharmacy operations at Akron General, providing essential medication distribution and operational services across multiple inpatient care areas.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in filling inpatient orders, including completion of necessary documentation.
  • Prepare, deliver and collect all pharmacy items throughout the medical center including re-stocking of automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Perform floor checks, stock checks and assigned unit review as required.
  • Complete all Pharmacy Keeper Activities and inspections assigned to their position.
  • Absorb and monitor stock for outdated medications and properly dispose of them in a timely manner.
  • Process medication returns / refunds to patient accounts.
  • Compound non-sterile medications according to USP795 regulations.
  • Prepackage medication as necessary and according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Answer telephones and assist callers with needs that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist.
  • Interact with EPIC, our dispensing automation software (e.g. Pyxis, Carousels, etc.) and Pharmacy Keeper software to answer all questions related to the processing of a medication order.
  • Assist customers at the service window including caregivers, couriers and others as needed.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma/GED
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) verified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Proficient typing skills
  • Registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: Associate’s Degree or completion of some college coursework preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital inpatient pharmacy preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience with EPIC or similar programs preferred, but not required.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and calculations preferred, but not required.
  • Prefer proficiency in technical skills used in pharmacy practice preferred, but not required.
