About the role

Join Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, a Magnet Hospital awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, and provide stellar care at one of the nation’s top healthcare organizations. The Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient supports a 24/7 inpatient pharmacy serving a nearly 500-bed hospital with specialized services including cardiology, obstetrics, and a Level III NICU. As part of a collaborative team of more than 50 pharmacy technicians, you will rotate through operational responsibilities that support safe and timely medication distribution throughout the hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Manage automated medication carousel systems and replenish over 125 Pyxis automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Deliver medications—including IV medications and controlled substances—to patient care areas.
  • Prepare liquid medications for neonatal and adult patients.
  • Compound non-sterile medications and assist in the IV clean room.
  • Respond to medication-related calls from nurses and providers.
  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to appropriate storage locations accurately and timely.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of medications and supplies, complete inventory audits (e.g., cycle counts, nursing unit inspections).
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs and training.
  • Use information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) upon hire.
  • Active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee upon hire. Note: Trainee or Registered Technicians must update to Certified status within 6 months.
  • Understanding of algebraic calculations for preparing extemporaneous compounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program.
  • Six months of hospital experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, stretch, and sit for prolonged periods.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for computer use, dispensing, and compounding.

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $21.50 to $31.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement contributions).

Schedule

This is a full-time role requiring five 8-hour evening shifts per week, based on departmental needs. Shift times include 2:30 PM–11:00 PM and 2:00 PM–10:30 PM.

Benefits

This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500.
