Job Summary and Qualifications

The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for accurately performing all advanced and basic pharmacy technician functions in a timely manner. They may also be responsible for duties with Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) and other specialized tasks as assigned by the pharmacy management team.

  • Demonstrate relevant theoretical knowledge.
  • Apply known solutions to a variety of predictable problems.
  • Apply and perform processes that require a range of well-developed skills where some discretion and judgment is required.
  • Interpret available information using discretion and judgment.
  • Take responsibility for own outputs in work and learning.
  • Maintain medication inventory, storage, and security as per regulatory requirements throughout the organization.
  • Accurately prepare and maintain required documentation logs, work records, and safety checks.
  • Interact in person and by phone with hospital personnel.
  • Perform basic billing functions.
  • Accurately perform required calculations.
  • Accurately and safely compound and label medications and parenteral admixtures.
  • Accurately package and prepare medications for dispensing as assigned.
  • Accurately transport medications and other pharmacy supplies in a timely manner to appropriate areas.

Job Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of hospital pharmacy experience is required.
  • IV Certification required.
  • National Certification (CPhT) preferred.
  • Adequate Registered Pharmacy Technician, as per state requirements, in good standing with appropriate State Board of Pharmacy required.
  • The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Tech (CPhT), or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
  • State Registration Pharmacy Technician, or Licensed Pharmacy Technician, or State License Pharmacy Intern.
