Pharmacy IV Tech II (EVENINGS)

About the Role

The Pharmacy IV Technician II prepares and delivers 80-85% of all IV admixture solutions for Chesapeake Regional Medical Center under the supervision of a pharmacist. This role also involves coordinating controlled drug distribution, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with state, federal, and hospital regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare IV admixtures under pharmacist supervision and deliver solutions to clinical units.
• Maintain inventory in the IV admixture room, including ordering supplies from the storeroom.
• Notify the pharmacy buyer of special drugs and supplies needed for the area.
• Clean and organize the IV admixture room and Laminar Flow Hoods according to hospital policies.
• Provide accurate records for charging/crediting purposes to the charge technician.
• Assist in generating monthly statistics on discarded IVs for the Pharmacy Director.
• Generate computer records to fill IV medication charts for nursing units.
• Process drug returns from clinical units and restock unused medications.
• Assist in training new staff on IV admixture preparation and inventory control techniques.
• Maintain computerized controlled drug inventory per state, federal, and hospital regulations.
• Order controlled drug inventory from wholesalers in compliance with regulations.
• Inventory the narcotic vault monthly and perform random audits on selected narcotics.
• Conduct monthly pharmacy inspections for expired medications.
• Prepare interdepartmental charge reports monthly and annual inventory reports.
• Maintain up-to-date labeling (price updates, reorder points) for all medications in the central pharmacy.
• Complete invoices as required by state and federal law.
• Attend hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
• Demonstrate flexibility in work scheduling to ensure patient care.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent (required). Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program (preferred).
• Experience: One or more years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician (preferred).
• Certification: Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and hold national Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
