Responsibilities
Essential Core Responsibilities
- Restocks floor stock and automated dispensing machines.
- Enters charges and credits against patient profiles to ensure accurate billing.
- Monitors medication order reports to assign medication to automated dispensing machines.
- Delivers all medication in compliance with DEA, DPH, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- Repackages bulk supplies of medications in unit-of-use packaging in accordance with Federal USP and USP standards.
- Prepares and delivers IV medications in accordance with Federal USP and USP standards.
- Maintains records pertaining to IV admixtures, ensures cleanliness in sterile areas, and completes QA.
- Checks for expired medications within the pharmacy and automated dispensing cabinets.
- Ensures expired or damaged medications are disposed of in accordance with RCRA, OSHA, and NIOSH regulations.
Level-Specific Responsibilities
- Participates in the inspection of medication storage areas to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Participates in drug procurement and receiving.
- Participates in automated dispensing systems inventory management.
- Participates in diversion prevention monitoring.
- Trains new staff in Central Pharmacy Operations, including:
- Automated Dispensing Cabinet responsibilities
- Medication monitoring reports
- Restocking
- Expiration date checking
- Trains new staff in extemporaneous non-sterile compounding and repackaging of medications in accordance with USP guidelines.
- Trains new staff in all Sterile Products areas, including:
- Clean room operations
- Documentation and QA
- Compounding (Low/Medium Risk, High Risk, TPN, Neonatal, Hazardous, and chemotherapeutic)
Requirements
- 2–5 years of experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Registered Technician with the State
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
- Sterile compounding experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT-Adv)
- Hospital pharmacy experience
Pay
The pay range for this position is $25.73 – $34.62 per hour. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as seniority, education, training, relevant experience, certifications, geography, job responsibilities, and applicable shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, or overtime.
