The Pharmacy Technician I Home Infusion position supports Yale New Haven Health Home Infusion Pharmacy staff with patient outreach, medication refills, picking medications and supplies for compounding by order, packing and labeling deliveries for shipment, and otherwise assisting the pharmacists as needed.
Responsibilities
- Contact patients and caregivers via telephone to coordinate medication refill deliveries.
- Process medication refills through EMR software and document updates in assessments.
- Pull medications from BD carousel or shelf by order.
- Receive deliveries from distributors and manufacturers.
- Gather patient-specific supplies using delivery slip for reference.
- Perform pass-through cleaning with approved cleaning agents.
- Assist the pharmacy team as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or pharmacy technician training program completion preferred.
- 6 months of pharmacy technician experience or healthcare experience required; sterile compounding experience preferred. (Successful completion of an academic or military pharmacy technician training program will be considered equivalent to one year of pharmacy technician experience.)
- Active Connecticut Pharmacy Technician Registration without restrictions required.
- Active Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification within 1 year (12 months) of hire.
- Strong customer service skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Competency in Microsoft applications, especially Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Knowledge of drug products preferred.
- Must pass all necessary competencies.
Physical Demands
- Work in a cleanroom space, including gowning, garbing, and handwashing before and after compounding.
- May be expected to work on-call shifts, including day and evening shifts.
- Considered essential personnel and expected to work during inclement weather (e.g., blizzards, hurricanes) if scheduled.
- Required to walk, sit, stand, and crouch for extended periods of time.
- Regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Moderate work environment noise level.
