About the Role
The Pharmacy Technician will assist the Pharmacist in prescription filling, prescription distribution, and clerical activities while under the Pharmacist’s supervision at all times. This position aims to increase patient confidence and loyalty by providing consistent operating conditions, courteous and prompt service, and a friendly atmosphere. The role also involves accurately and courteously communicating pharmacy policies and procedures to customers when appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of prescriptions, including entering patient information (demographics, drug allergies, and pharmaceutical history) and prescription orders into the pharmacy system for processing.
- Assists the Pharmacist in filling prescriptions by pulling stock, pouring, counting, restocking, packaging, labeling, and pricing the prescription.
- Provides excellent customer service by greeting customers, maintaining a clean and inviting pharmacy, and answering the phone courteously.
- Assists the Pharmacist in the preparation, reconciliation, and billing of third-party insurance claims, including re-billing rejected claims.
- Assists in checking and removing out-of-date products as instructed by the pharmacist.
- Orders, receives, rotates, and stores products to ensure quality controls.
- Reconciles daily merchandise orders.
- Maintains confidentiality in compliance with federal HIPAA regulations.
- Organizes and files records.
- Maintains all product labels, signs, and prices aligned with products.
- Keeps the work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; reports hazards to the pharmacist or manager.
- Operates the cashier terminal and credit card machine; collects proper payment for merchandise.
- Repacks and consolidates supply overstock (e.g., vials, caps, bottles, etc.).
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; graduate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program preferred.
- Minimum three (3) months of experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
- Current CPR (BLS) certification or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
- All WI candidates hired in this position after March 1, 2023, must apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) and provide proof of application upon hire.
Skills
- Ability to work standing for most of your shift.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and email.
- Experience with electronic medical records and/or pharmacy systems.
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusion.
- Knowledge of pharmacy standards, policies, procedures, and third-party insurance.
- Exceptional customer service, communication, organization, problem resolution, and process development skills.
- Bilingual is a plus.
