About the role
The purpose of the pharmacy technician is to assist and support the pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medications for Northern Nevada HOPES patients. This position serves patients by processing, filling, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.
Responsibilities
- Triage requests and prioritize them.
- Reads, interprets, and processes provider’s medication orders and ensures all information is accurate and complete.
- Processes patient insurance and interacts with insurance companies to resolve any prescription claim issues. Updates patient’s demographics, health, and insurance information in pharmacy software. Updates patient’s financial status to determine sliding scale fee.
- Retrives medications from shelf, counts medications, and labels containers for patient use. Ensures that prescriptions are filled from the appropriate inventory based on patient and program qualifications.
- Identifies patients with 2 identifiers when dispensing prescriptions. Ensures that each prescription bottle is matched with each prescription label before dispensing to patient. Accurately and efficiently processes payments and returns. Notifies the pharmacist when a new prescription requires counseling and/or when a patient refuses counseling.
- Inventory Control: Receives, validates, and stores incoming medications and supplies per manufacturer recommendations. Reconciles credit memos from the wholesaler. Assists in conducting an annual physical inventory and cycle counts. Identifies shipment errors and/or drug recalls; research backorder and finds alternative generics when available. Checks for expiration dates on medications on a regular basis. Monitors and maintains current drug inventory levels.
- Department Support: Provides customer service by answering phone calls within 3 rings in a prompt and courteous manner. Accepts telephone authorizations for refills from prescribers or their authorized agents in accordance with Nevada State Law and Regulations. Calls patients to increase medication adherence and to identify any barriers to medication access by following up on prescriptions that have not been picked up within 7 days. Operates bar code scanning equipment to ensure that all pharmacy processes can be identified in pharmacy software. Ensures sufficient cash in the cash register and maintains correct cash balances throughout the business day. Maintains a positive, courteous, helpful attitude to customers and coworkers. Prepares the daily cash deposit and credit card transaction summaries.
- Pharmacy Compliance: Complies with rules, regulations, and procedures to help maintain a clean and safe pharmacy. Adheres to all local and national guidelines and regulations, such as HIPAA, DEA, and HRSA. Maintains records by recording and filing prescription hard copies. Provides services to Ryan White Part B (RWPB) eligible clients and assists the Pharmacy Director and Pharmacists with daily tasks. Reviews prescriptions to determine if it is available for mailout before prepping it by checking on insurance eligibility and previous post cards on file. Acts as a liaison between RNs/MAs and patients for accessing medications. Acts as the liaison between the state and clients to trouble shoot copay related issue, especially ADAP. Completes 340B University to ensure 340B compliance.
Requirements
- Pharmacy Technician license in good standing in the State of Nevada required.
- Superior knowledge of Pharmacy Insurance Billing required.
- Proven ability to maintain professional conduct required.
- Able to multitask, detailed oriented, and flexible work schedule as assigned required.
- Able to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with all team members required.
- 3 years of experience as a pharmacy technician preferred.
- Able to work a Monday thru Friday schedule preferred.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
- Experience in a pharmacy setting preferred.
