About the Role
Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB or ExCPT certified, assists with and coaches pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.
Responsibilities
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
- Model and share customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
- Under pharmacist supervision, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
- Utilize pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy; fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying correctness, and checking for interactions.
- Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to policies regarding pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all prescription dispensing activities.
- Register related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and assist customers in locating over-the-counter products.
- Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including those to physicians.
- Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services efficiently and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
- Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving prescription drugs.
- May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples, and coordinating clinical services with healthcare clinics and external providers.
- Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
- Maintain the Pharmacy Department’s appearance by ensuring it is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
- Good computer skills.
- Knowledge of store inventory control.
- PTCB or ExCPT certification.
Training & Personal Development
- Earn and maintain PTCB or ExCPT certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification/registration; certification is a condition for promotion to senior technician.
- Attend training and complete PPLs requested by the manager.
- Acquire continuing education credits and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
Pay
Salary Range: $18 - $21.50 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors including geography, skills, abilities, education, experience, and other relevant considerations.
