Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Pharmacy Technicians take important steps to ensure all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met for our patients. They demonstrate ethical conduct and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Success in this role includes managing all assigned pharmacy workstations and tasks to support the team's ability to promptly, safely, and accurately fill patient prescriptions while providing caring service that exceeds customer expectations.

As a new Pharmacy Technician, you are required to complete an extensive CVS Pharmacy Technician Training Program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to your State's Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Your duties will initially be restricted by your manager until you complete all necessary requirements. Once satisfied, you will have the opportunity to expand your duties and continue building your clinical, technical, and insurance knowledge and expertise.

In select markets, the collective bargaining agreement rules regarding the Pharmacy Technician may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met for patients.
  • Maintain ethical conduct and patient confidentiality.
  • Manage assigned pharmacy workstations and tasks to support the team in filling prescriptions promptly, safely, and accurately.
  • Provide caring service that exceeds customer expectations.
  • Complete the CVS Pharmacy Technician Training Program and meet all state-specific registration, licensing, and certification requirements.
  • Expand duties and build clinical, technical, and insurance knowledge as you progress in your role.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Licensure requirements vary by state.
  • Attention and Focus: Ability to concentrate on tasks without distraction.

  • Notice and understand customers' reactions and respond appropriately.
  • Communication Skills: Use and understand verbal and written communication to interact with customers and colleagues.
  • Actively listen by giving full attention to others, understanding points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Mathematical Reasoning: Use math to solve problems, such as calculating the day's supply of a prescription.
  • Problem Resolution: Judge when something is wrong or likely to go wrong; recognize problems and choose the best course of action.

Physical Demands

  • Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks.
  • Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers.
  • Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Bending body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist.
  • Stooping to a considerable degree and requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; conveying detailed or important spoken instructions accurately.
  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels and receiving detailed information through oral communication.
  • Close visual acuity for activities such as transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, reading, and visual inspection involving small parts.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs; exerting up to 30 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred but not required).
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting (preferred).
  • Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician (preferred).
  • PTCB National Certification (preferred).

Pay

The typical pay range for this role is $16.00 to $24.00 per hour. The actual salary offer will take into account a wide range of factors, including location.
