About the role

Neighborhood Family Practice is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist pharmacists in all operations of the pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with clinic and pharmacy staff
  • Handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule
  • Set priorities and solve problems
  • Respond quickly to patient needs
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Aid in meeting the pharmaceutical care needs of the patient populations served by the organization
  • Procure and distribute medication orders per patient request, pharmacist request, provider request, or prearranged work assignment with a 95% accuracy rate according to established policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Perform data entry, process insurance claims, and fill prescriptions accurately and in a timely and efficient manner
  • Correctly count, pour, measure, package, and label medications when filling prescriptions
  • Accurately and efficiently enter patient information to maintain patient records
  • Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures
  • Assist in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations
  • Rotate stock to ensure use before expiration date
  • Identify and return any outdated and unusable medications
  • Restock medications accurately within specified time periods
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the department
  • Enter prescription information into pharmacy computer system accurately
  • Complete prescription sales transactions
  • Organize and prioritize work assignments
  • Keep pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized; keep pharmacy equipment clean and report any malfunctions to direct supervisor
  • Maintain patient, prescription, and other required documentation accurately and document in appropriate locations
  • Answer the telephone, identify self and department, and answer patient requests directing calls to appropriate personnel
  • Provide high quality customer service and answer pharmacy related inquiries in person and on the phone in a timely and efficient manner
  • Participate in the quality improvement activities of the department
  • Report any prescription errors or other discrepancies to the pharmacist on duty according to current policies and procedures
  • Assist in shipment or delivery of medication order processes when necessary
  • Will act as a backup driver for the delivery of prescription medications utilizing the NFP vehicle when needed
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality at all times
  • Complete all required continuing education needed to maintain technician license in good standing
  • Must have an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural diversity of the population served
  • Completes other tasks as assigned by Director of Pharmacy or supervising pharmacist

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma, GED, or foreign school diploma equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma
  • Must be registered as either a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Pharmacy Board
  • Computer experience sufficient to perform data entry functions
  • Must be able to meet credentialing requirements and successfully complete credentialing process
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Current valid driver’s license. NFP will perform an Ohio MVR annually for insurance purposes
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills: empathy, trust, respect, and ability to establish effective relationships with people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
  • Applies critical thinking skills and ability to work independently
  • Displays team membership skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Preferred: Outpatient/retail pharmacy experience, certified pharmacy technician

Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Ability to see, communicate, hear, and utilize electronic communication devices
  • Demonstrated ability to walk, sit, or stand for long periods of time. Requires some lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Work environment is stressful at times
